“THE CITY OF POP CORN CIRCUS”
Ed. Giunti Junior. Coll. Gru., 2013
Illustrated by Giuliano Ferri.
“ Giacomo’s finger suddenly stopped; his heartbeat accelerated and his nose started smelling. That smell, that unmistakable smell! Pop corn! He heard a faint scratching and then something appeared from the balcony: two ears, two paws and a tail, and again two ears, two paws and a tail, and again two ears, two paws and a tail! Three cats one on top of another, a pyramid of cats!”
A good book where themes of great topicality such as tolerance towards diversity, acceptation of other people, respect for the environment, the importance of not being influenced by advertising and commonplaces and even to came back to healthy and handmade food, melt in a touching story of friendship, but not without suspense.( www.noinonni.it)
This is a book for children really full of themes and starting points for reflection… All this in an adventurous and involving story, a bit surreal and oneiric, in between dream and reality, in a dimension that is valuable for its beauty, either if it is real or only Giacomo’s, the main character, dream. An epic story, with a nation and its girl queen to save, a foreigner hero with a special talent, an inventor and three deputy cats of the queen…. Gripping, fluent, with beautiful illustrations, it is suitable for children from ten years who, if able to understand even a few hints for reflection sown between the lines, will find a good occasion to grow up or, in any case, an outstanding and most pleasant reading.
